Și-a amintit perfect.

The Watch from Sibiu
Radu was strolling aimlessly through the Grand Square in Sibiu. It was a Saturday, one of those perfect autumn days with a gentle sun and fresh air. He loved this city more than any other place, with its history that could be felt on every street corner.
At a small flea market, organized near the Council Tower, something caught his eye. On a table full of dusty objects, there was a pocket watch. It was old, elegant, and the silver it was made of seemed blackened by the passage of time.
He approached and picked it up. It was unexpectedly heavy and cold to the touch, as if it had preserved within it the coolness of bygone nights. The lid was engraved with a complicated pattern, which he couldn't decipher.
"Good day. How much is this?" he asked the seller, an old man with sharp eyes and a white beard.
The seller looked at Radu, then at the watch, and smiled mysteriously. "Young man, this watch is not for sale. Its price cannot be measured in money."
Radu was disappointed. He really wanted that object. "I understand. It's very beautiful."
"But," the old man continued, "I can offer it to you as a gift. I have only one condition: you must promise to take care of it and try to understand its secret."
Surprised, Radu didn't hesitate and accepted. He thanked him and left, clutching the watch in his pocket. He felt like a child who had received an unexpected toy.
When he got home, he sat down at his desk and opened the watch. He immediately noticed that it didn't show the time. In fact, it didn't even have hands. Instead of numbers, the dial was painted with tiny, incredibly detailed images.
When he looked more closely at one of them, he felt a sudden jolt. The scene was set in a hospital. His mother, who had died ten years ago, was there. She was sitting on a bed, but she didn't look sick. She was smiling broadly and holding a baby.
He snapped the lid shut, his heart pounding. How was this possible? Was it just a coincidence?
The next day, with some fear, he opened it again. Now, there was another image on the dial. It was him, Radu, wearing a white doctor's coat. He was in a modern office, talking to a patient.
He remembered perfectly. In high school, he had dreamed of becoming a doctor. But he gave up because he was afraid the entrance exam was too difficult. He chose history, a safer passion.
Was the watch showing him moments from the past? Or maybe an alternate past? He was totally confused.
Determined to find out the truth, he went to an old watchmaker in the Lower Town, a craftsman renowned for his knowledge. He showed him the watch and told him what he had seen.
The watchmaker examined it with a magnifying glass, with slow and precise movements. After a few minutes of silence, he looked up. "This watch is very old and very special," the craftsman said. "Legend says it does not show the time that has passed."
"Then what does it show?" Radu asked, impatiently.
"It shows the time that could have been. It shows you fragments of the lives you would have lived if, at a crossroads, you had made different choices."
Radu remained silent, looking at the heavy watch in his palm. It was not an object that measured the past. It was an object that measured regrets and lost possibilities. A burden and a lesson, at the same time.
